AUS vs WI: Left the job of security guard last year, now opened his ‘claw’ in Test debut. Shamar Joseph broke the back of Australian batting

Shamar Joseph: West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph had left the job of a security guard exactly a year ago and now he has become a call for Australian batsmen.

Shamar Joseph Story: Shamar Joseph forced Australian batting to surrender in Tests. West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph, who was a security guard just a year ago, made a total of five Australian batsmen, including Steve Smith, his victims in his Test debut. Shamar’s journey till playing Test cricket for West Indies was quite inspiring. He showed Steve Smith the way to the pavilion on the very first ball of his career.

These days, the first match of the two-match Test series between Australia and West Indies is going on in Adelaide. Through this match, West Indies’ Shamar Joseph made his Test and international debut and he wreaked havoc in the very first match. In the debut match, Shamar made five Australian batsmen his victims on Australian soil. In the first innings of the Test, the West Indies pacer made Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon his victims. 

The journey to international cricket was not easy

The journey of Shamar, who opened his claws in the first innings of his international career, has not been so easy. Before this, Shamar used to work as a security guard. He left the job of security guard in January 2023 and exactly one year later i.e. in January 2024, he devastated Australian batting with his bowling. Shamar played only five first class matches before joining the West Indies national team. Bowling 10 innings of five first-class matches, he took 21 wickets at an average of 21.80 and made his way to the West Indies.

Talking about Test, West Indies got bundled out for 188 runs in the first innings. Kirk McKenzie played the biggest inning of 50 runs for the team. Apart from this, Shamar Joseph, who took five wickets, scored 36 runs. In reply, Australia, who came to bat for its first innings, was all out by West Indies for 283 runs. During this period, Shamar took 5 wickets for West Indies. Apart from this, Justin Greaves and Kemar Roach took 2-2 wickets. Whereas Alzarri Joseph got 1 success. This was the first time since 2009 that West Indies had all out Australia in a Test on their own soil. 

Then West Indies, who came to bat in the second innings, had 73 runs on the board for 6 wickets by the end of the second day. Currently West Indies is trailing by 22 runs.
